I wouldn't be surprised to find a column from me on Crane's comments today. You mentioned something key: "relayed". Don't kill the messenger. It's not like I didn't request speaking to Crane prior. I was given his PR who has specialized in crisis management. - MauryB

Yeah, your sources are most likely with MLB or one of the owners wanting the Astros to realign. In other words, parties who have an incentive to smear Crane as pathetic leverage against Crane. Low, Low, Low. And you helped them. Read the article in the Houston Chron where his kids state that what you relayed was BS. And still, you have no desire to write the truth!!! Incredible. - BS detector

Realignment is not what is hinging on Crane's approval. BSDetector, I'll only say that my sources aren't from the Astros. My sources come from a higher place in the pecking order. - MauryB

Now that MLB has admitted that they have been extortionists all along, Maury Brown has been exposed as their shill. He ought to try to redeem himself by writing the truth that he was a witless dupe in a smear campaign by MLB to obtain realignment. Serious, you've written three hit pieces, why not try telling the truth. - BS detector

Can Crane Afford the Astros?

It seems like Crane is, pardon the pun, out of his league trying to own an MLB team. I am very nervous that he wants to keep payroll at a KC Royals level, which will net similar results.

Wouldn't he be happier with a nice AA team?

If you go back and read the national columnists who have made so much of the HOU-to-AL issue, as far as I've ever been aware anyhow, none of them actually had a source that said it was an issue... it was always a matter of their own conjecture. In fact, ironically, when they've mentioned speaking with a source about it, it has been routinely stated that there's nothing to the idea.

That could be because there is a lot to the idea, and they're actually just trying to keep it hush-hush.

Or it could be because, if one thinks about it logically, it's a dead-end for MLB to play this game as long as crossing the league boundary is, also, a CBA issue. That is, MLB has no better option if they turn down Crane since neither is Drayton McLane willing to move them to the AL. Indeed, if they turn down Crane for the reason you and other conjecture, the outcome is just a perturbed Drayton McLane who has seen the owners blow up his deal for no actual purpose served.

Wow, as if your last "pieces" weren't enough, now throw out an "issue" about a father/stepmother argument. Oh, the horror.

All these nebulous reasons strongly indicate his intransigance about moving to the AL is the real issue, despite what your league sources feed you for their own purposes. - bs detector
