The Biz of BaseballGiven the high interest in the proposed deal to make Extra Innings only available on DirecTV, as well as the considerable coverage that The Biz of Baseball has given to the topic, we have created a section within the site that allows to find all related articles in one spot.

By selecting “Media News” from the site navigation to the left, a new sub-category appears named “Extra Innings / DirecTV”. Selecting that sub-category will get you any and all articles on the subject.

Remember, you can cast your vote on the proposed deal within our poll displayed throughout the site. To see how others have voted, you can view the results here.

Written by The Staff
Sunday, 11 February 2007 06:41

The Biz of BaseballThe Biz of Baseball has been updated with new content...

To add to our 2007 Arbitration Figures page, we have added an Arbitration Scorecard page.

With the first two rulings from arbitration hearings (Josh Paul and Joe Beimel), we will be tracking whether the owner or player was ruled in favor, what the total contract figure is, who the arbitrators were on the panels, and how this stacks up in the overall scorecard between owners and players historically. We also are providing last year's scorecard, and a PDF file showing Arbitration Results from 1974-2004.

Access the new page in the navigation tier to the left, or access supporting pages, here:

New Content - CBA Summaries
Written by Maury Brown
Friday, 02 February 2007 06:52

Biz of Baseball ExclusiveThe Biz of Baseball site has added new content...

Have you ever wondered...

  • When the owners and players first agreed to form a study group on changes to the Reserve Clause binding players to their clubs indefinitely.
  • When an arbitration procedure was put in place for resolving salary disputes between owners and players.
  • When the owners ordered a spring training lockout, which lasted 17 days, and why.
  • What all the penalty details are for the drug testing program

These, and a host of other details are now available on The Biz of Baseball as a summary of all 10 of the Collective Bargaining Agreements brokered since 1986 are now available.

This is the first part of our long range project to document the history of baseball by business. To view the CBA Summaries, select the History navigation element to the left, and from there select CBA Summaries. Or, select from the following to view them directly:

Look for more summaries of this nature in the future. This information is due in large part by the efforts of Jeff Euston, who runs Cot's Baseball Contracts.
