Maury BrownMaury Brown, the president of the Business of Sports Network will be on both 1310 "The Ticket" and ESPN Radio in Dallas (103.3FM) at 7:15am CT with the lastest on the bankruptcy situation with the Texas Rangers, namely the Greenberg/Ryan group suing the Rangers, and their claim the the chief restructuring officer, William Snyder, reneged on the Bidding Motions Procedure and overstepped his boundaries of his position in this case by working to solicit a higher bidder in the sale of the Rangers. Although he is not named, it is clear that the bidder is Houston businessman, Jim Crane.. As the filing today by Rangers Baseball Express says, in part, "The CRO does not, and never had, any authority to solicit alternative bids or negotiate with prospective bidders."

MLB Constitution

THE BIZ OF BASEBALL HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH HARD TO FIND DOCS

Two of Major League Baseball’s rarest documents have now been published within The Biz of Baseball’s document archive.

A searchable version of the last update to the MLB Constitution as well as the 2008 update to the Major League Baseball Rules and Professional Baseball Agreement are now online.

Both of these documents are not released to the public and go into exceptional detail into how the powers of the Commissioner function,  physical territories of each club, and everything from how tickets are allocated to clubs and executives for the World Series, minor league agreements, and much, much more.

Here are examples from each of the documents.

From the MLB Rules, and Professional Baseball Agreement (2008)

WORLD SERIES TICKET ADMISSIONS

(e) TICKET PRIORITIES. The order in which requests for reserved seat tickets for the World Series shall be filed is as follows:

(1) Visiting Club. Five hundred reserved seat tickets for each game to the visiting club, for accommodations of its officials and guests, the same to be paid for by the visiting Club.

(2) Players. Five tickets for each eligible player of the visiting team, which shall be delivered to and paid for by each player through the business manager of the player's Club.

(3) Commissioner's Office and Club Officials. Requests filed by the Commissioner's Office and Major League Club officials or parties of prominence with the Commissioner.

(4) Major League Clubs. Major League Clubs (other than the visiting Club), 100 reserved seat tickets, 16 of which shall be box seats. Eight of the 16 box seats shall be grouped together in the lower deck between first and third base, and 20 of the remaining 84 reserved seats shall be so situated.

From the MLB Constitution (June 2005 Update)

UNDER ARTICLE II (SECTION 8) OF “THE COMMISSIONER”

(a) The Commissioner shall hold office for a minimum term of three years or for such longer term as shall be established by the Major League Clubs at the time of the Commissioner’s election. The Commissioner shall be eligible to succeed himself or herself.

(b) Any re-election shall be considered at a Major League Meeting held not less than six months nor more than 15 months prior to the expiration of any term. The Commissioner's compensation shall be fixed at the time of election.

(c) No diminution of the compensation or powers of the present or any succeeding Commissioner shall be made during the Commissioner’s term of office.
