Phoenix – The phase heard most often from those arriving to attend the MLB All-Star Game festivities has been:, “The 2011 MLB All-Star Game… But, it’s a dry heat.” That may be, but if the heat was a topic of discussion, it hasn’t stopped fans from turning out in large numbers for the FanFest being held at the Phoenix Convention Center.
Tens of thousands of fans poured through the doors, filtered into the lower regions of the Convention Center, and entered what can best be described as “Baseball nirvana.”
Passing through the event, it can often be a case of option overload… Where to start? The Baseball Hall of Fame Traveling Museum?... Negro Leagues display?.... Hunt Auctions and the memorabilia? Or, do I take in Rawlings, MLB Network, MLB Network Radio, and more?
But, along the way, there’s material displayed that, if not paying close attention, you might miss.
Such is the case for these images below.
This insane custom chopper designed by Bourget’s Bike Works was done for New Era Caps and is called the MLB – Stars and Stripes. The bike is being displayed around the country at key events and will donated to MLB who will auction it off with proceeds going to the “Welcome Back Veterans” program.
Specs:
Bike Design:
Bourget’s Python Super Stretch
47 degree front fork rake
Pearl white paint
Billet machined caps, bats, and baseballs. Foot pegs, hand grips, mirrors, air cleaner, lights, wheel covers, belt guard
The seat is something else… Designed to look like a baseball glove.
Logos? The red, white, and blue designs used on caps for Memorial Day and 4th of July.
Check it out.
Maury Brown will be reporting from the MLB All-Star Game festivities in Phoenix from Sat. to Tues

8:30pm ET - As of this publication, Derek Jeter has doubled and is just two hits away from 3,000 hits, a feat done by only 27 other players prior.
As it’s the Yankees. Because it’s, well… Derek Jeter. The countdown has garnered a lot of interest, including Major League Baseball and the Yankees. As this image shows, special balls are being used to track history.

We don’t know how long they will last (at least the ones that have more than a passing resemblance to the Dodgers logo), but if nothing else, it’s taking a bad moment for the Dodger faithful, a good play on words, and turning it into a great piece of merchandise.
Yes, it took all of one day for Frankrupt.com to launch, a thumbing of the nose at Frank McCourt and the Dodgers bankruptcy. There’s a sneaking suspicion that more than a few will be purchasing these in Los Angeles.

Today, during a press conference at AT&T Park, Giants players Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum and Cody Ross unveiled the Players Choice Signature Series jerseys and T-shirts they designed exclusively for their fans, with each product expressing their unique personalities and attitudes. Pablo Sandoval also designed Signature Series products, but was unable to attend the unveiling.
The Giants Players Choice Signature Series jerseys and T-shirts will go on sale today at AT&T Park, online at MLB.com and at San Francisco-area Giants Clubhouse stores, Fanzz and Hat World locations.
The players produced the products in a two-month design and manufacturing process with the Major League Baseball Players Association and its apparel licensee, VF/Majestic, beginning with one-on-one design sessions during spring training. See the Red Sox designed items for the 2011 Signature Series collection.
The Signature Series product-line made its debut in 2009, when New York Mets players designed items for sale in the MLBPA’s Players Choice Clubhouse retail store located at Citi Field.
Last year, the Yankees, Mets, Phillies, and Twins players released products

Ballparks aren’t just about baseball these days. Clubs, looking to maximize non-gameday revenues hold all kinds of events when the team is on the road.
Case in point, the Detroit Tigers and Comerica Park.
The Tigers have announced the inclusion of the 1958 Firebird III as the centerpiece vehicle for the Detroit Tigers Classic Car Show on Saturday, July 30, 2011. The 1958 Firebird III will be on display outside of Gate A, next to the Big Tiger statue prior to the Tigers game versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at 4:10 p.m.
Built in 1958, the Firebird III was originally unveiled in 1959 as the first space-age inspired car by GM with its aerodynamic fiberglass body and pearlescent silver-gold color. Driving the Firebird III was much like flying a plane. The futuristic design of the Firebird III made it a timeless historic vehicle and epitomized America’s drive in the space race with the USSR.
In addition to the Firebird III, the Concours D’Elegance of America at St. John’s will also provide two historic vehicles for the show (the Tigers did not say what the vehicles are)
The Detroit Tigers Classic Car Show makes sense where the auto industry is king. The Tigers have the car show open to the public and are encouraging collectors to showcase their very own historic vehicles at Comerica Park and have setup a special page online at tigers.com/carshow where entries can be made by Friday, June 10. All vehicles must be of show quality, and be manufactured prior to 1990. If selected, a registration fee of $115 will apply, which includes car show space, two lower baseline box tickets to the Tigers vs. Angels game, two food vouchers for use within Comerica Park, two Classic Car Show T-Shirts, and Classic Car Show poster.
As mentioned, nomination will continue until Friday, June 10, at which time the 100 best nominated vehicles will be selected and owners notified of their selection for display at the Classic Car Show.
For more information, tickets, or to nominate your classic car, visit tigers.com/carshow.

You had to wonder when it was going to happen. With Derek Jeter poised to break the 3,000 career hits barrier, when would the league, and Yankees, capitalize on it?
Well, today that's happened as Jeter has worked with MLB and the Yankees to design a special silicone bracelet commemorating the achievement. The great thing? Proceeds will be benefitting his Turn 2 Foundation. According to MLB, Jeter will wear the DJ3K bracelet during Tuesday’s game against the Red Sox, which will feature a pre-game ceremony honoring seven of the 2011 “Jeter’s Leaders.” Proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will benefit the “2011 Jeter’s Leaders Leadership Conference,” which empowers high school student leaders from across the country by providing valuable tools to accomplish social change. The bracelets, which feature a “DJ3K” mark along with the Yankees and Turn 2 Foundation logos, will be available beginning Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, Yankee Clubhouse Stores, MLB.com, Modell’s, The Sports Authority, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bob’s Stores and Party City locations throughout the greater New York area. They will come in a two pack (one blue, one gray), with an MSRP of $5, $1 of which will go to Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation.
(Purchase them online, here)
And no, this isn't the end of it. MLB has announced that additional merchandise commemorating the 3,000th hit will be released immediately following the achievement.
Since its launch in 1996, the Turn 2 Foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants to create and support signature programs and activities that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and “TURN 2” healthy lifestyles. Through these ventures, the Foundation strives to create outlets that promote academic excellence, leadership development and positive behavior. These programs all share the same goal of helping today’s youth become the leaders of tomorrow. For more information, you can visit: www.turn2foundation.org.
So, support a good cause. If you're a Yankee fan, all the more so.
