ESPNESPN will launch the ESPN HD Radio network on Saturday, June 7 to coincide with the start of the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament. ESPN Radio will make available compelling sports content for the 1,714 stations broadcasting with HD Radio technology across the nation via a ground-breaking, internet/satellite-based delivery system. HD Radio technology is transforming AM and FM broadcasting with a vastly increased number of channels, drastically improved sound quality, and an array of new data services.

Using a specialized ESPN HD Radio network appliance, subscribing stations will be able to customize and program their own ESPN HD Radio stations. The network appliance (content server) will allow a station staff member to pre-program their station(s) on the internet from one easy-to-use interface. The content server will allow affiliate stations to pick and choose from a wide array of compelling sports content options -- both live and pre-recorded -- providing a simple one-box solution for generating localized HD Radio programming from an up-to-the-moment menu of content.

In addition to providing conventional audio content, the content server will also give HD Radio stations unique sports data-casting abilities such as bottom-line data, clock and score information and other non audio services specifically designed for the HD Radio system. Stations can also simplify the process of localizing content and commercials with automatic settings on the ESPN HD Radio content server.

These broadcasts will be available to any listener of an ESPN HD Radio FM affiliate who has an HD Radio receiver. HD Radio multicasting is new technology whereby stations can broadcast multiple programs in high quality in the same frequency. ESPN Radio's FM affiliates can take advantage of additional marquee and exclusive programming provided by ESPN, by airing these programs on their HD Radio HD2/HD3 multicast channels.

Robin VenturaRobin Ventura, the MLB vet who played 10 seasons with the White Sox, will fill-in for broadcaster Steve Stone this coming weekend on WSCR-AM 670’s White Sox games. According to the Chicago Tribune, Ventura is not sure whether he’s ready for broadcasting as a second career:

"I don't know if I'd do it yet," Ventura said. "It's definitely not a natural thing for me. There are times when I need to speak more. When I did the World Series game with Gary Thorne, he told me I didn't have to say anything at all. He's professional enough to cover up if I didn't say anything."

Jete and Ortiz in XM Radio CampaignGetting tired (already) of Obama, Clinton, and McCain talk? Want new fresh faces on the campaign trail? How about Derek Jeter and David Ortiz as new candidates.

Both Jeter and Ortiz have tossed their caps into the ring to campaign for XM Satellite Radio.

The "race" is the new multimedia marketing campaign from XM that will run throughout the course of the season.

A new XM TV spot offers a parody of election ads with Ortiz campaigning for the "Every Game" platform, while Jeter stumps for "Every Team." The TV spot and online ads are premiering this week.

Baseball fans can visit the new web site XMBaseball.com to choose Jeter or Ortiz for the President of XM Baseball, and send their friends a personalized audio message from their candidate.

Coming soon, the web site will let you upload a personal photo and create a bobblehead image with your favorite team's uniform. With your bobblehead image, you will be able to star in your own campaign video as the running mate for Jeter or Ortiz, and share it with your friends. You will also be able to create a voicemail greeting from the candidates, or download a customized ringtone.

You can also reach JeterForPresident.com or OrtizForPresident.com.
