Mark ShapiroThe Cleveland Indians and General Manager Mark Shapiro agreed today to a five-year contract extension through 2012. Shapiro is entering his 6th season as Executive VP and General Manager and his 16th overall after joining the organization in 1992.

Financial details of the contract were not made available at the time of the announcement.

“We are extremely pleased with the leadership, direction, passion and pride Mark has instilled in the Cleveland Indians organization,” said Indians President Paul Dolan.  “It’s crucial for Mark to remain in this executive role to ensure the continued success of the Cleveland Indians franchise.”
