Major League Baseball Players Association Executive Director Michael Weiner today announced that Steve Fehr has been named Special Counsel. Today’s announcement formalizes a role Steve has held for the past 23 years while serving as outside counsel to the MLBPA.
As Special Counsel, Steve will continue to provide legal advice and support to the Union’s labor relations efforts, and he will continue to play a major role in future rounds of collective bargaining. His duties also will involve government relations, including support of the MLBPA’s Congressional efforts on Capitol Hill.
“I am pleased that Steve will continue to represent the Union and its members. Steve has extensive experience in all aspects of the Union’s affairs and his dedication to the organization is beyond question,” said Weiner.
“It has been a privilege to represent the Players Association all these years, and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead,” said Fehr.

He played a prominent role in negotiating the 2002 and 2006 Basic Agreements, as well as multiple negotiations over the Joint Drug Agreement.
Fehr will continue to be based in Kansas City, where he is Of Counsel to the firm of Jolley, Walsh, Hurley, Raisher & Aubry, P.C.. A graduate of the University of Kansas for both undergraduate and law school, he lives in the Kansas City area with his wife, Cynthia Wendt, and their children, Alex, Caroline and Tom.
