Joe Sherman of the New York Post tweets that the Yankees have signed outfielder Randy Winn to a one-year contract pending a physical. The deal is worth $2 million and effectively ends Johnny Damon's stay in the Bronx.
Winn's trek through the majors began in 1998 with Tampa Bay when they were still the Devil Rays and included stops in Seattle and San Francisco. Last year, with the Giants he tallied a batting line of .262/.318/.353 in 149 games. He played primarily in right, but had significant time in center and left as well. For the Yankees he can back up at all three positions, or if Brett Gardner bat remains inadequate, he can start in place of him.
