ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports that Kansas City has agreed on a one-year deal with former Cardinal outfielder Rick Ankiel that will pay him $3.25 million for 2010. The deal also includes a mutual option worth $6 million for 2011.

Ankiel began his career as a highly touted pitcher finishing second in the NL Rookie of the Year voting. The following season saw his control vanish in spectacular fashion, and prompted his conversion to the outfield. His hard work brought him back to the majors in 2007 when he posted a .285/.328/.535 line in 190 plate appearances. After a similar 2008, he stumbled last season to a .231/.285/.387 batting line in 404 plate appearances. He'll be slotting in at right field for the Royals.
