Ronald Blum of The AP provides the details of Joel Pineiro's new two-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Pineiro will earn $16 million over the life of the deal, which is pending a physical.

Pineiro had a remarkable 2009 for the Cardinals - his second full season with the club. Making 32 starts, he finished with a 15-12 record and an ERA of 3.49. Pineiro's very low strikeout rate (4.4 K/9 IP) was more than offset by his microscopic 1.1 BB/9 IP. He will slot into an Angel's rotation in transition. They return Jered Weaver, Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders and Scott Kazmir but how well Pineiro can replace John Lackey is yet to be seen.
