Enrique Rojas of ESPNdeportes.com has a story on the Atlanta Braves' new contract with Melky Cabrera. The one year, $3.1 million deal allows the club to avoid arbitration with the recently acquired outfielder. Cabrera came to the Braves in the Javier Vazquez deal with New York in December.

Cabrera, who is just 25, has spent the last four full seasons with the Yankees after a brief cup of coffee with the club in 2005. Last year was his best season as he posted a .274/.336/.416 line in 540 plate appearances, to go with solid defense at all three outfield positions.

His signing reduces the number of arbitration eligible players to 139. The arbitration filing deadline is Friday, January 15th, 2010. Please visit the salary arbitration page for more information
