One of the biggest stories at the Baseball Winter Meetings here in Indianapolis had nothing to do with players, and everything to do with the media that covers it.
The announcement of Peter Gammons leaving ESPN after 20 years was the buzz throughout the halls here at the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis.
While Gammons cited family reasons, rumors circulated that Gammons would not be out of the media business for long.
Word came late on Tuesday, and is now confirmed by The Associated Press that Gammons will be joining MLB Network, with an announcement possibly as early as Wednesday. If true, Gammons will be yet another industry icon landed by the league-owned network that saw Bob Costas added to their on-air talent roster in early February of this year.
