Kevin Towers, MLB’s longest tenured general manager is reportedly about to be fired by the San Diego Padres. Jeff Moorad, the CEO of the Padres is scheduled to address the media on Saturday afternoon to make the announcement.
Towers, in his 14th season, told The Associated Press in an e-mail that he can't comment on his situation. He is under contract through next season.
Moorad is in the midst of a 5-year process to purchase the controlling interest in the Padres from John Moores. Moores, mired in divorce proceedings, is selling the club.
The Biz of Baseball has interviewed both Towers, and Moorad, when he was CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks
