Nomar Garciaparra has reportedly narrowed his choices to playing for the Oakland Athletics or retiring.
According to mlb.com, a major league source told FOXSports.com on Thursday night that the 35-year-old veteran infielder is deciding between a one-year contract with Oakland or calling it quits after a 13-year career. Sources in the report also stated that the A's might step up their pursuit of shortstop Orlando Cabrera and reliever Dennis Reyes if they are unable to sign Garciaparra, and also stated that the Phillies likely won't be signing Nomar. The oft-injured Garciaparra batted .264 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs in 163 at-bats, but appeared in just 55 games last year, his second with his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers. He has also played for the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs.
