The Philadelphia Phillies released right-handed pitcher Adam Eaton on Friday, ending a disappointing two-year relationship between the two parties. Eaton signed a three-year, $24.5 million contract with Philadephia prior to the 2007 season.

According to Todd Zolecki of, the Phillies still owe Eaton $8.5 million for the 2009 season, plus a $500,000 buyout on a 2010 club option. Eaton, 31, posted a combined 6.10 ERA in 49 starts for the Phillies over the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Eaton previously pitched for the San Diego Padres from 2000 to 2005 and the Texas Rangers in 2006.
