Nate McLouthToday, outfielder Nate McLouth and the Pittsburgh Pirates reached a three-year, $15.75 million agreement, thus avoiding salary arbitration, just hours before his hearing was to take place in Phoenix. The deal will see McLouth earn $2 million this year, $4.5 million in 2010 and $6.5 million in 2011, as well as a $1.5 million signing bonus. The Pirates have a $10.65 million option for 2012 with a $1.25 million buyout option.

McLouth, in his first year of salary arbitration eligibility, was seeking $3.8 million in 2009 while the Pirates were offering $2.75 million, a difference of $1.05 million. McLouth’s $2 million base salary for 2009 is $1.275 million below the $3.275 million mid-point between the two figures. However, when factoring in McLouth’s signing bonus he will see $225,000 over the mid-point figure.

In signing McLouth, the Pirates have now completed agreements with all six of their players in salary arbitration for this year. Four players (Zack Duke, John Grabow, Adam LaRoche, and Tyler Yates) reached one-year deals on January 20, the final day before salary arbitration eligible players and clubs exchanged salary figures. Paul Maholm and McLouth both reached 3-year deals after exchanging figures.

In total, the six contracts account for $43.1 million over 10 contract years. The total salaries for these players in 2009 will be $18.35 million.

Below is a complete breakdown for all the Pirates players in salary arbitration this year:
