SufkaThe Joliet JackHammers have named Kelly Sufka executive vice president and general manager.

Sufka, who was promoted from her position as assistant general manager, becomes the second Exec. VP/GM in Joliet franchise history. Sufka fills the post previously occupied by Steve Malliet, who left the JackHammers at season's end to become the president of the River City Rascals of the Frontier League, after five seasons at the helm of Joliet.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead an organization that I have been with since its beginning. I learned a great deal working for Steve Malliet over the years, and I appreciate the JackHammers ownership group having the confidence in me to continue and build upon the organization’s success,” Sufka said. “Since graduating college, I have worked for an opportunity like this. My husband, Kurtis, and I are grateful to be working and living in this wonderful area, and we are looking forward to spending future summers, and winters for that matter, at one of the best ballparks in the minor leagues, Silver Cross Field.”

Sufka has been part of the JackHammers organization since the team’s inception in 2002. For the past three seasons, Suka served as the assistant general manager. In her five seasons with the JackHammers and in her 11 seasons of working in professional baseball, Sufka has garnered experience in numerous facets of minor league baseball including merchandising, corporate sales, ticket sales, marketing, public relations, baseball operations, promotions and game day operations.

Prior to joining the JackHammers organization, Sufka worked three seasons for the Myrtle Beach (SC) Pelicans, a single-A advanced affiliate in the Atlanta Braves organization. She also spent two seasons working for the single-A Clinton (IA) Lumber Kings in the San Diego Padres organization and the single-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Appleton (WI), an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

Sufka is a 1996 graduate of Bemidji State University in Bemidji, MN where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sports management with an emphasis in business administration and recreation. Kelly was a scholarship athlete in volleyball and basketball. Kelly is a native of Tigerton, Wisc., and a 1991 graduate of Tigerton High School. Kelly and her husband, Kurtis, reside in Minooka, Ill.
