MLB Network to Tap Matt Vasgersian as First Studio Host Print

Matt VasgersianWhen the MLB Network launches on January 1, 2009, (register and log in to see a complete listing of carriers), San Diego Padres play-by-play announcer Matt Vasgersian will be its first studio host according to Broadcasting & Cable.

According to B & C, “Prior to the Padres, Vasgersian handled play-by-play for the Milwaukee Brewers.  He also was a member of NBC’s 2008 Olympic coverage and among several other roles, was the lead voice for the XFL, the one-season football league that was run by NBC and World Wrestling Entertainment.”

An MLB spokesperson had no comment.

The MLB Network will mark the largest cable channel launch in history since it is expected to reach approximately 50 million digital television households just on basic cable tier packages.
