Jerry ReinsdorfChicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, apparently, doesn't feel that the owners bear any blame for the current PED culture in Major League Baseball

During an interview with Chuck Garfien of Comcast SportsNet, Reinsdorf responded to a question as to whether baseball could have done more to curtail the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times:

''We would have loved to have done more, but Don Fehr wouldn't do it. People should start to realize that we could have been testing for steroids years and years ago, but Don Fehr wouldn't do it because he said it was an invasion of privacy, and the result of that is that Don Fehr is going to cost players entry into the Hall of Fame because if we could have been testing for steroids years ago, some of these guys who are now on the bubble who got themselves in trouble would have gotten off steroids. ... Steroids is strictly a Don Fehr problem and creation."

Remember, this is the Jerry Reinsdorf that never admitted that there was collusion amongst the owners in the '80s. Musing on Reinsdorf's comments, the analogy is that of a parent who wakes up one morning to find that their child is a drug addict and replies, "It's not my fault they're that way. I wanted to do something about it but they said it was an invasion of privacy. My kid's drug problem is strictly their own." Enabling the situation by simply shrugging your shoulders and not being accountable for your industry is myopic.
