Billy Crystal officially made history today, as he was placed in the lead-off position of the Spring Training game between the Yankees and Pirates at Legends Field in Florida.
Crystal struck out, but not before taking Pirates starter Paul Maholm, to 3-1.
Crystal, at age 59, wore the number 60 signifying his age when he has his birthday on Friday. Despite his age, Crystal look professional in the box, made contact down the first base line, foul, just past Adam LaRoche.
Crystal laid off bad pitches against Maholm, who said, and backed it up, that he would not go easy on Crystal.
Give this to Crystal... he took the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity very seriously and despite the fact that his one day contract was all about celebrity, at least he didn't look the part of a fool.
