Ryan FranklinReliever Ryan Franklin and the St. Louis Cardinals reached a two-year contract extension today with a team option for 2010.

Financial terms have not been disclosed as of this time.

Franklin signed a one-year, $1 million deal in the off-season, after leaving the Seattle Mariners. He has played eight seasons with four different teams.

In August of 2005, Franklin was suspended 10 games for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs – the maximum amount for a first violation at the time. At the time, the suspension cost Franklin $147,540, based on his $2.7 million 2005 contract.
