Atlanta BravesThe protracted finalization of the sale of the Atlanta Braves from Time Warner to Liberty Media will not be concluded by opening day. As reported by the AP:

"Baseball's processes are not on any schedule for it to happen by opening day," Braves president Terry McGuirk said after watching batting practice Friday.

McGuirk is slated to remain in charge of the Braves.

What the AP story doesn’t say is that the deal does have to be completed no later than May 17th for the parties to take full advantage of the tax breaks associated with the deal. And technically, they would most likely have to be done a couple of days before that to make sure and get all the necessary filings done in time.

So, with McGuirk’s comments, and the deadline mentioned, the deal will have a month and a half to complete. Stay tuned here for more details.
