MLBMLB may attempt to become the first professional sports league to implement testing for human growth hormone (HGH), according to Gary Green, a UCLA doctor and consultant for MLB.

The test would not be conducted via urinalysis, as is the case with MLB’s current testing policy, but rather would require blood draws, something which may run into dispute with the MLB Players Association. As reported by USA Today:

Use of the blood test would have to be collectively bargained with the MLB players union, which did not want to publicly comment.

"If there is a valid blood test," MLB spokesman Rich Levin said, "I'm sure baseball will consider it."

The test was developed with oversight from the World Anti-Doping Agency, and used on a trail basis at the 2004 and 2006 Olympics.
